Assignment 2A - Bug List

 The Bug List

1. Empty paper towel dispensers at the gym.

Why it exists: Staff members are not aware that the dispensers are out and gym members do not notify staff, they just walk to the next dispenser. 

2. Bathrooms that do not have paper towels, only blowers.

Why it exists: To save money and cut down on waste from paper towels.

3. When co-workers leave their dirty dishes, utensils, coffee cup, etc. in the sink.

Why it exists: Workers may be used to someone else taking care of their dishes at home or they are in a hurry and just toss their dishes in the sink. 

4. When people at Disney stand in the middle of the walk way to talk to each other, instead of moving to the side.

Why it exists: Guests are distracted and are not paying attention to the fact they are in a walk way and blocking people from moving quickly. 

5. Driver that do not yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, when the pedestrians have the right of way. 

Why it exists: Most drivers are in hurry and some do not realize that pedestrians have the right to walk in the cross walk when they have the appropriate signal, even though the driver may have a green light (lack of understanding for basic driving rules). 

6. Having to wipe my dogs paws in the mornings after they go outside. 

Why it exists: The morning dew on the grass causes the dogs to track dirt into the house if their paws are not wiped. 

7.  When people stare at me in the gym.

Why it exists: There are only TVs in the cardio section of the gym, so when individuals are on the machine there really isn't anywhere to look other than in front of you. Therefore, it looks like people stare at you. 

8. When people smoke right outside of a doorway. 

Why it exists: There are many reasons why this bug exists, one reason being that establishments place trashcans with ash trays right outside of the doors so people congregate in those areas to smoke. 

9. When students litter on over campus before football games (during tailgates). 

Why it exists: Other than pure laziness, this bug exists because trash cans become full and are not emptied. This causes students and other to throw their trash down near the cans. 

10. When people do not rack their weights in the correct locations at the gym. 

Why it exists: Another case of laziness, but also because they may not notice the labeled racks for each weight size. For example, on the bench, there are posts for 2.5 lbs, 5 lbs, 10 lbs, 25 lbs, etc. but the labels are in black which blends in with the post to hold the weight. 

11. When the pet store is out of the brand/bag of food for my dogs. 

Why it exists: The store does not back stock enough of this brand and they want the customers to call and order a week or more in advance. 

12. Road construction that starts at peak commuting hours. 

Why it exists: I am sure there are many reasons but one would be that the road crews want to work days and not nights. 

13.  People that do not use their blinkers to turn. 

Why it exists: I am not sure. I would say because people are either in a hurry or they just do not care to turn their blinkers on to let other drivers know where they are doing. 

14. People that fill up their vehicle at the gas station and then walk inside, while still being parked at the pump. 

Why it exists: People do not think to move their car to a space up by the store.

15. When the floors in my house get dirty. 

Why it exists: My shoes and dogs track dirt in the house and the dogs shed, causing the floors to get dirty....constantly! 

16. The prompt on Netflix that asks "Are you still watching?".

Why it exists: To limit the streaming and use of Netflix when no one is actually watching tv. 

17. Begin hangry.

Why it exists: Because I go too long without eating. 

18. Cute clothing that is "Dry Clean Only".

Why it exists: This happens because of the type of material the piece is made out of. 

19. Retractable leashes. 

Why it exists: They are convenient for people who do not want to walk far with their dogs or walk into the grass.

20. Cars that are parked on the line in parking lots. 

Why it exists: Drivers get out of their cars and do not look back to see their parking job. 

Reflection: The "Bug List" assignment was slightly difficult. I completed it over a total of 3 days. It wasn't necessarily difficult to come up with things that bug me, but it was hard to come up with the "why". I found it easier to come up with reasons as to why the “bug” bothered me than it was to come up with why the bug existed.
