Assignment 26A - Celebrating Failure

In the beginning of this semester I was prepared to work ahead. I tried a number of times to be at least a week ahead in this class and it just wasn’t working for me. A week or two would go by and I would tell myself again that I was going to get a few extra assignments out of the way, but yet again I wouldn’t do it. During spring break, I planned to get two weeks of assignment completed but again, I didn’t.
From this experience, I learned that I am very much a procrastinator and as hard as I try to get ahead it just doesn’t work out for me. I can continue to try and work ahead at a slower pace and that might help me get there.
In general, I do think failure is a good thing. Just like making mistakes, it teaches you what not to do. You consciously remember what it is that didn’t work or was wrong and you continue to progress. I take failure very hard, even if it wasn’t my fault. I usually stay upset for a few days and then I move on. The class has helped me see that failure doesn’t mean the end of something, it’s just the beginning. Failure give you a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t so you can make the best of whatever it is you are pursuing.

  1. Hi Danielle,
I also procrastinate a lot! Something that helps me is making a to-do list. I find satisfaction being able to cross things off my list, so this helps me get things done! I think failure is not a bad thing, as long as you are able to earn from it.

  2. Danielle,
Working ahead is easier said than done. I always say that I'm going to work well in advance, but then life happens. I would agree that in the grand scheme of things that failure does more good than bad as it allows us to grow, but it can be tough to deal with and discouraging at times. I think this course has helped me handle failure better and allowed me view failure as a learning moment.

  3. Hey Danielle!

As an avid procrastinator myself, I totally understand your pain! I've struggled with my procrastination tendencies for years and something that helps me is to make a list of everything I need to do or accomplish everyday and set it as my phone wallpaper. Because my phone is always in my hand, I am constantly reminded of what I need to get done so I will not veer from it.
