Assignment 18A - Create a Customer Avatar

Prototypical Customers in my segment (Dog owners who are away from their homes for a long period of time (9+ hours & days)

My prototypical customer is 27-year-old woman with a black lab who is more of a kid than a pet. She works long days as a nurse at the local hospital and she does not have time to run home during the day. She likes to take her dog to daycare, where he can play inside & outside with his friends and not have to sit in an enclosed area for an extended period of time.  She drives a mid-sized SUV with enough room for her 100-pound pup to ride along. She likes to travel often and when she goes on trips via plan or ship (where she cannot take her dog), she often leaves her dog at the pet resort. She also likes to take day trips to see her friends who live in a beach condo where pets are not allowed. When she takes these trips, she drops her pup off at daycare with its pup friends.

I have many things in common with my prototypical customer. We both have dogs that we love as if they were our kids, we both work longer hours and we both travel often. I do not think this is a coincidence as my consumer segment is a segment that I often utilize. Because I am part of my segment, I understand the difficulties that dog owners have when it comes to the best care for their pets.

  1. Hey Danielle,
I think you nailed your customer avatar here as it's realistic and fitting for your business idea. You captured the small details about your segment that sets them apart from the others and narrowed in on why they are your ideal customer. We often don't take into consideration the time commitment it takes to own an animal between work and living our own lives, so I think the tid bit of information about her going to her friends beach condo bumps your avatar up a notch and provide some more thorough insight about your customer.

  2. Danielle,

Your prototypical customer is on point. I like how you described her with detail, from down to the work hours and the type of dog she has as well. If you can find things in common with your customers there is nothing better. This is true because once you can understand your customer and be on the same level as them, you can understand their needs as if they were your own. Nice post and you seem like you have a good understanding of them.
